Alright…what is Twitter? Why should I care?
Twitter is yet another social networking site. Individuals are given 140 characters to answer the question, “What are you doing?”…over the past year, Twitter has grown to a phenomenal status, providing users the ability to communicate information in real time. This has had a dramatic effect on how people share and control the information and news that they find interesting. Individuals, departments, marketers, government, small businesses, news agencies, and other groups have figured out creative ways to utilize Twitter…why not you?
TweetUp? What does that even mean?
A TweetUp is the physical meeting of individuals who use Twitter. It is the next step of Social Media: actually meeting people face to face. It is an opportunity to share ideas about Twitter with other Twitter users, and to put faces and people in front of their Twitter personas.
Who is the Spartan TweetUp for? Why would I want to go?
The Spartan TweetUp is a TweetUp for people within the MSU Community. This ranges from students to professors to department staff to administrators. Anyone who uses Twitter, is curious about Twitter, or wants to see how people are using it are welcome to attend. The purpose is to help Spartans network within the MSU community. Since MSU is so large, it is often difficult to meet people from across campus, share ideas and information, and work together to promote and better our campus. The Spartan TweetUp is a way for that to happen.
Faculty may want to see how other professors are using Twitter, students may want to meet other students on Twitter or learn about various programs that are on campus. Programs may want to recruit students, meet Faculty of similar interests, or see what other programs are up to. The entire purpose is to network and share ideas.
How often do Spartan TweetUps happen? Where do they occur?
The amount of TweetUps that are held is dependent on the demand. They will occur at various spots around campus, depending on who would like to host a TweetUp. Hosting is a minimal responsibility: you need to provide a comfortable space for people to chat.
Why would I want to host a SpartanTweetUp?
Hosting a Spartan TweetUp gives you the opportunity to draw people from campus to your physical space. MSU is a large place – there are many parts of our campus that many of us have not had the opportunity to visit. Hosting a Spartan TweetUp gives you a chance to introduce the campus community to your space, and gives the campus community an opportunity to branch out and explore new areas of MSU. Perhaps you have recently opened a new building, or have moved across campus? Or maybe you are hosting a special program or exhibit that you would like people to see? Hosting a TweetUp automatically brings a diverse group of people through your doors.
Man, this sounds pretty sweet…how do I host a Spartan TweetUp?
